Shankill Residential Development is a thoughtfully designed medium-density scheme located in the heart of South Dublin’s suburban landscape. The project reimagines low-rise living through a contemporary lens, offering an architecturally rich alternative to traditional apartment blocks. Nestled within an established community, the development introduces a mix of duplex and triplex homes arranged around landscaped communal courtyards, blending privacy with vibrant shared spaces.

Each residence is finished to a high standard, featuring open-plan layouts, large-format windows for abundant natural light, and private terraces or balconies that enhance indoor-outdoor living. Materials such as warm brick and crisp white render add to the visual elegance and enduring quality of the homes. The pedestrian-friendly design places an emphasis on walkability, play areas, and biodiversity, creating a safe and engaging environment for families and individuals alike.

The Shankill Residential Development posed several engineering challenges that Tent Engineering successfully navigated as the civil and structural consultant. The site’s uneven terrain and mixed ground conditions required a tailored foundation strategy to ensure stability with minimal disruption. Integrating large openings and open-plan layouts within a low-rise, medium-density framework demanded precise structural solutions using reinforced concrete and steel. Tent Engineering also addressed complex drainage and utility coordination, designing sustainable systems that worked within the compact layout. Limited site access further complicated construction logistics, requiring careful phasing and traffic planning to maintain safety and efficiency throughout the build.

Mixed ground conditions were addressed through a combination of shallow and deep foundations, tailored to minimize site disturbance while ensuring load-bearing integrity.

Reinforced concrete slabs and selective steel framing were used to achieve open-plan layouts and large fenestrations, aligning with the architectural intent of light-filled, modern homes.

Civil design included efficient routing of water, waste, power, and telecom services in tight corridors, with considerations for future maintenance and minimal disruption to public realm features.
